– When reality meets fantasy –
When I traveled to Tokyo, I instantly fell in love with the city. Coming from Europe, Tokyo seemed like a different world – almost a fictional world. It was indeed a clash of reality and fantasy. Of course, being a photographer, I took many photos to capture my impressions - interesting angles, people, situations, and locations.
I tried to find a way to express the character of Tokyo (reality meets fantasy) with one of my favorite illustration techniques - acrylic painting.
I selected a few of my favorite photos and printed them on 300g off-white, textured paper. I then picked out little, subtle details and painted over them or added a pattern with a thin brush. At the usual quick first glance, the human eye doesn‘t even realize that some of the details are painted. But when you take a closer look you discover bits and pieces that are illustrated.
